The game's a foot!

​Mama and Papa both share a love for vintage games. When they heard little Desmond was on the way, they didn't think twice about a birth announcement for their MINIgeek: they wanted to make sure that their little one would grow up to be a gamer too! ;) ​They spotted our game-box concept at Gent Comic Con and contacted us through our website. We set up a meeting because Mama & Papa have big plans to announce the birth of their little one, too much to put on e-mail. And what an exciting project it turned out to be: Mama & Papa wanted to tell the story of Desmond with a pixel-animation mock-up of a game, including a vintage NES-BOX!

Mama & Papa wanted a card with a vintage game cover. For close friends and family they  wanted an animation which mirrors the platforms of a real pixel-game. Mama & Papa worked very closely with us on this project: sketches & storylines were sent back and forward. Desmond was going to be the hero of the story, and a little dragon (based on a knitted toy Mama made for Desmond) was going to be his sidekick. In the game Desmond has to work himself through several levels and beat the big bady in the last level. Then he finaly meets his Mama & Papa and becomes their very own MINIgeek.

The old NES-games were stored in those typical cardboard-boxes. To finished it off, the artwork from the card was used to make a real custom vintage NES-box! A few weeks before the due-date, we delivered the boxes and the original painting to Mama & Papa. Then the waiting game began. On Valentine's day we received a message from PAPA with the last details to be filled in into the print-ready file for the birth announcement card. We sent it to the printers and followed up the next day. Mama & Papa choose the printers- delivery service and the next day the cards arrived to be sent of to friends and family!
An amazing project to work on, which resulted in a beautiful birth announcement, which suits this family to a T. And after 9 months of waiting .... the real game's a foot!
