On a beautifull spring day, Papa walks past 4MINIgeeks at a comicon in Gent. Papa loves walking amongst cosplayers and lots and lots of geeky stuff. And ofcourse FACTS is the best place to do just that. Mama and Papa just discovered that they're expecting a little Baby Boy: he is to be born in october. Ofcourse they want something special to announce the birth of their little Baby Boy. On that beautifull spring day, Papa finds exactly what they are looking for: a fantasy or sci-fi birth announcement! So he picks up our card, and shows Mama as soon as he got home. They browse our website and one of the illustrations catches their attention: a big sturdy robot walking with a duck toy! But something is missing .... Five months before their little one is due, they contact us for a custom made card. Mama and Papa know exactly what they want: the original illustration needs to be adjusted so that Baby Boy is the star of the card. A new painting is made and extra illustrations are added on the inside and the back of the card. Mama and Papa choose a background, the fonts and a papertype from the sample packet we sent them. Sketches are sent back and forward for approval. Mama and Papa also order their 'geboortesuiker' with us: magnets, buttons, colourfull boxes and VIP metal boxes printed with the design of the card ... and ofcourse filled with chocolate sweets (suikerbonen). We deliver them together with the original painting to Mama and Papa a month before Baby Boy is due, because you never know when babies decide to be born. ;) Then the waiting game begins: the digital file is ready to go, except for the date of birth ofcourse. :) On the 2nd of november we recieve a proud e-mail from Papa: little Konstantin was born at 23:46 the night before. We send the file to the printers and the cards are deliverd to Mama and Papa one day later.
Congratulations to Mama and Papa with their beautifull little boy. We loved being part of the first chapter of his story and we look forward to meeting little Konstantin in his first cosplay outfit :).

These are hand painted t-shirts which I finished this week for an 11 year old boy and a 7 year old girl. For the boy I enlarged one of my existing illustrations. I think they turned out pretty cool.
Last week I got a little bored with paper as a medium, so I started experimenting with T-Shirts. I discovered that I am a lot more comfortable using 'traditional' textile paints, but 'textile pens' are also available in a wide range of colors. The advantage of paints is that you can mix any color you want, which is useful if you're painting the robot below.
In our survey during the F.A.C.T.S. spring-edition, visitors showed a big interest in shirts. In stead having the T-shirts printed, I'm making little paintings you can actually wear! And don't worry, we've tested it out for you: it's wash- and iron proof! Which is very useful if your 4 year old minigeek is running around wearing one of the little paintings I made this week! :) Very busy with new painting called "evolution". A funny idea I had at 4 in the morning. Hope to show you the result very soon! #4minigeeks Getting ready for #FACTSconvention #FACTS2016
Did you ever wonder what it would be like if a dragon read you a bed time story?
Discover the new paintings in our gallery. To kick-start this blog: a tutorial about a white dragon.
Painting a white creature is generally quite difficult. The biggest challenge is to mix the main character in with its background. Since a few years I've been using a collage technique. In this particular painting it made blending the dragon in with the background even more of a challenge! I first painted the background so I could plan the shadowing and highlights of the dragon. In the first few layers of the creature I painted the shadows roughly and made sure that the lightest part (e.g. the head) stayed the center of focus. I also added contrasting colors, like pinks and purples, because oddly enough it makes the white look more like white in the final painting. When I was happy with the balance of the shadows and highlights, I added a few layers of detail. I cut out the dragon and put it on the background to make the final adjustments before glueing it onto the background. Hope you like the end result! |
